MADE IN CHINA FESTIVAL
Made in China vzw was founded by two passionate sinologists who have set the goal of opening up Chinese contemporary culture to the inhabitants of Ghent, to the Flemish and the Walloon people and the Chinese inhabitants of Belgium. Made in China aims to build bridges, to bring people closer together, and to provide insight into new, different perspectives, critical but unbiased through film, documentary, virtual reality, art, literature, music and debate. We are on a mission to bring Chinese culture and authentic contemporary China closer to us to achieve a better mutual understanding.
Made in China Festival wants to illuminate contemporary China in all its facets. We aim to create a modest but reliable, high-quality platform where art, culture and current affairs in China are highlighted on different locations in Ghent. Various key players are being brought together to share knowledge and offer a glance into the rich and challenging cultural variety that China provides in order to establish a forum for debate on social, economical and cultural evolutions and offer China a face and a permanent place in Ghent.
"Made in China” refers more often than not to all Chinese-made artifacts we encounter in our daily lives, without us being conscious about who the people of China really are. For us, "Made in China" specifies that all movies, short films, documentaries shown during the Festival are made by Chinese directors and all performances and talks are created by Chinese artists or ardent China-professionals.
