Go with the Tides

Every day, seacoasts around the world go through the cycle of high and low tides. From high to low or from low to high. Every 12 hours and 25 minutes, again and again. The forces of the moon are doing their thing. For centuries.

The Chinese Guzheng player Wu Fei likes to be inspired by it. During the Made in China Festival she travels to Ghent for a week of creating with an impressive group of musicians. Using ancient Chinese poetry and the waves as a guideline, they create their own sonic poem to experience together with the audience. A very personal test of strength in eternally propulsive movement.

Virtuoso Chinese guzheng player Wu Fei enjoyed a classical education, but chose a jagged path that includes improvisation and folk in addition to classical Chinese music. She released her solo album Yuan on Zorn's Tzadik label and collaborated with Fred Frith for Distant Youth. With American banjo player Abigail Washburn, she plays Kung Fu Appalachian folk.

That adventurous path aligns perfectly with that of her fellow players.

DIJF explored the music of Java, Nepal and most recently Georgia and made wondrous soundtracks with them.

Drummer Simon Segers (De Beren Gieren, STADT, Black Flower, ...) treads paths between free, jazz and rock and developed a very personal style. Due to circumstances, he replaces the previously announced Mattias De Craene.

Dishwasher bassist Louise van den Heuvel is greedy for all things adventure.
